Stillwater and World War I Exhibit

Thanks to our Registrar, James Gregory, and our terrific summer interns we were also able to open our “Stillwater and World War I” exhibit this summer, which will be on display until 2019.  This exhibit highlights Stillwater’s role in supporting the war efforts, including the creation of the Payne County Council of Defense, which helped with publicity, conservation of food and fuel, military preparedness, and the promotion of Liberty Bonds, war savings stamps, and Red Cross campaigns.  The exhibit talks about several of these programs and features items from Stillwater’s residents who served in the Great War, including Oscar David Houston and Myatt W. Myatt.  The exhibit also includes an interactive for visitors to learn a little about the trench combat that dominated World War I.
