“Celebrating Stillwater’s Black History: Honoring Earl and Bernice Mitchell and Washington School.”
Activities will include a program honoring the Mitchells at 6:00 p.m. and New Orleans jazz music provided by Wayne Bovenschen and his band. Decorations will reflect both Washington School colors (maroon and silver) and New Orleans (Earl and Bernice’s home prior to moving to Stillwater in the 1960s). The event was rescheduled to allow the option for participants to also attend the program “Greenwood: A Century of Resilience,” a positive look at the growth of Greenwood district following the massacre of Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, being offered at the McKnight at 7:30 p.m. the same evening (tickets are required for the McKnight event; call ahead).
